I Resolve...

Ok…. it’s been YEARS since I’ve made real resolutions. Mainly because I always found that I was making the same ones every year and never really finding resolution. My own fault of course. But even with the lack of actual written resolutions I have still used this time of year to reflect and decide loosely what I would like to do better in the new year. It’s time I made it official again… possibly with more success? We shall see! Eternally optimistic! That’s me!

A new year does offer us an official date on which to begin our ‘fresh’ start, right? I’ve thought and thought about what my resolutions would be and this year I’m going to try my hardest to hold myself to them. I’ve enlisted the help of some loved-ones (including my sig. other) to help me make sure I reach my goals even if it means getting a stern look now and then.

Without any further ado…. here are my resolutions for 2009… and they are all new and I’ve done my best to keep them simple and attainable (there are only 5):

1. I’m resolving to do some form of excercise EVERY day. Generally, I excercise regularly…but I need to really commit- even if some days I can only go for a quick walk with the dogs or bang out a quick yoga routine. Something every day. Even if it’s small. It’s good for the body AND the soul.

2. I’m going to call my grandparents more often. They live in Idaho and though we are not super close, I know their time on this earth is growing short. I realized that when I visited them a few weeks ago. Actually- I’m going to be better about calling all my loved ones. Why limit myself?

3. I shall take better care of my lawn. I’m no green thumb (and oddly enough everyone else in my family is amazingly talented in this area yet I am NOT) but I’m going to try and spend a little more time with that… planting a few flowers… who knows? Maybe it will end up being cathartic.

4. I want to have dinner around the table at least once a week. Who cares if there’s only two of us in the house? There’s something about eating at an actual table. It feels so… civilized.

5. Read. I used to read a lot.. meaning at least a few books a month, but in the past year I haven’t set aside the time I should. My love for the written word has sadly been ignored lately.

Ok- so none of my resolutions are earth-shattering. They aren’t so big and noble that they will change the world. But I feel they are doable and in doing the doable- maybe I’ll someday gain the ability to don the cape and really make a difference. Yeah, right!

Thanks for reading and if I don’t blog again before Thursday… Happy New Year!

xo,

Sam
