I’m a list-maker and have been for a very long time. I have fat notebooks going back at least 15 years and on every page I’ve listed dates, things I had hoped to accomplish on that date complete with a little box to check when I’ve completed the task. I even carried my lists to meetings in case I think of something to add. I also write down phone messages- songs I need to check out- concerts I want to see and a plethora of other random things.
I can grab any past notebook (yes, I have most of them stored away somewhere) and literally chronicle every little thing I went through on that particular workday.
**mind you, I don’t do this in my personal life- unless I’m packing for a trip**
Another thing I’ve noticed in my notebooks… all of them… is that I doodle randomly on the pages. My doodles go back as far as my list-keeping practice. I can tell you that most of these have occurred while I’m sitting in the presence of others… quick meetings, dicussions, phone conversations. I was led to believe at a very young age that doodling is along the lines of daydreaming. But recent studies have showed that may not be the case!
Makes sense because my doodles have never kept me from absorbing conversations or meeting agendas. It always seemed to help me just… listen. Anyhow, it could be that a lot of doodling actually KEEPS people from daydreaming because they stay grounded mentally. If you want to see coverage of one such study click HERE. Of course- I wouldn’t the reporter can really interpret what certain doodles mean… they are clearly goofing around, but the story itself is interesting.
My doodles have nearly always been swoops, swirls, teardrops and geometric shapes. What do they mean? There are thousands of sites where one could research to find the answers… one fun quick article I found is located HERE. If you crave more just google “doodle” and you could be entertained for hours.
And for fun- here is a random page from one of my notebooks… and only a small example of what I’ve done. I know it’s bit tough to see and I’ve blanked out phone numbers and emails but can you kind of get what I mean?? Maybe I’m clinically insane!

Who knows?
Thanks for reading!
