Style Matters Summer Tips

The weather has finally turned seasonal, and so we shoppers are out canvassing the stores.  As you peruse the racks, keep in mind these trends that Style Matters thinks are worth investing in.

A white summer dress — You know about the LBD.  Now it’s time to buy a LWD.  They  can be accessorized with anything in any color.  Dress it up dress it down, dress it young dress it mature.  The LWD will leverage your wardrobe the whole season  which $aves valuable $$$$$$$$.

Gladiator sandals — Hip, cool, different, they update any outfit.

Style Matters on Shapewear

Judie: The other day Evelinda and I were on KOSI 101 FM radio with Denise Plante and Murphy. At a break, with no warning whatsoever, Evelinda hikes up her dress. "See what I’m wearing," she screams to everyone in the studio. What she was so demurely showing us was her new Spanx slip.

Evelinda: I thought Denise would want to see it and Murph had no problems. He has three daughters. What’s the big deal?

Judie: The big deal is I have to admit, you looked pretty svelte. What’s holding you in?

Looking Back

Evelinda: The Style Matters column has run in the Rocky for more than eight years. An early column on thong underwear ("I was shocked when I found out that thongs were supposed to, you know, slide in there," Judie confessed) put us on the map.

Judie: From then on our more than 430 columns covered every imaginable topic about style, fashion and beauty. We shopped the pawn shops for jewelry ("Once you realize there’s no piano player on the mezzanine level, pawnshops are, well, okay.").

Evelinda: We road tested miracle beauty products. I fanatically chewed "Bust-Up" gum, a Japanese creation "guaranteed to increase bust size up to 80 percent." I slept in "Slimquick Turbo Cell" shorts to reduce my cellulite and sucked on Power Pops to curb my appetite.

Are You Thinging our Thong?

Judie: I used to be paranoid about showing my panty line. (Especially as Evelinda is the first to point out that my panty line is showing. Thank you very much.) Then I read that men find the panty line alluring as it is suggestive of what is underneath.

Evelinda: Wrong! You’ve been talking to guys who haven’t seen a panty in a while. To avoid the dreaded panty line, I spent years cutting off the legs of cheap pantyhose to wear under clothes. Several years ago I got brave and tried a thong. It was not easy, and I must have bought about two dozen pairs in a variety of price ranges and styles before I hit gold! But now I am a thong lover: "Nothing comes between me and my thong."
