Denver got a huge pat on the back from Forbes magazine recently. We made it into their top ten "Best Cities for Working Mothers." They started with the 50 largest cities in the US but then went with the premise that different mothers want different things. They looked at schools, medical care, and safety but also branched out into job opportunities and potential earnings along with cost of living and more. So some cities that you would think to be family friendly like Salt Lake City actually fell in the ranking because of lack of child care options. A few weeks ago I finally made a trip to Aspen and was reminded how lucky we are to have to many options for quick weekend getaways here in Colorado.
Speaking of which, this weekend there’s something very cool going on in Steamboat and I’m VERY excited to be making my first trip there to be a part of it! It’s The 6th Annual Wine Festival at Steamboat. I have to tell you- I’ve been looking forward to it for weeks!
If you love wine and food but don’t really have the time to take a big trip right now- this is the perfect mini-getaway. I’m going to take my trusty “Sam Cam” with me on the trip- and I’m hoping to capture the essence of the Festival. I’m planning a visit with Hosea Rosenburg who was the winner of Bravo’s Top Chef Season 5 as well as plenty of exploration around town… and of course, wine tasting!
My friend Scott Shull, my sister Janet Selby, and I at the Melting Pot in Littleton. Wow, was it delicious! Next time, I will ONLY order appetizers and dessert! I was so danged full! Yes, you can tease me for the fact that this was my FIRST meal there, ever… ![]()

Well, I’ve officially embarked on my new adventure of learning the cello. My friends and family are excited because many of them have heard me talk about playing the cello for years. No bones about it though- I am a beginner. My dreams of being a prodigy are indeed only that- dreams. ![]()
Earlier today my best friend asked me how many lessons I was into it. I responded “just a few.” He said, “So you’re about 3 weeks away from being in the Denver Philharmonic?”
Haha. Well- if the Philharmonic wants to have me join in on a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star I might be able to participate- but doubtful! My teacher plays cello in the Denver Philharmonic (Kenny Martin) and I all ready wonder how he puts up with me.
I've been watching two puppies playing this weekend. We have a nine month old and got an 8 week old to become his buddy. Sometimes they forget their own strength and one yelps and we come running to make sure they’re ok. Then they go at it again and don't want to stop. I've begun to notice that when they get really aggressive it really means they’re really tired and I carry the little one in and the other follows. He fights being in my arms and then I sit him down and he literally passes out right there on the floor.
They’re so much like little children. They go and go and are afraid they’re missing out on something if they take a nap. They also keep grabbing each other's toys, just like little kids. Still want what the other's got and as soon as they get it they go after what they just left behind.
How do you create strategy in your life and not only plan and set goals but also roll with ways that change comes up. We can have a goal in our life to win the game and so we can also create the strategy on how to win.
Where people get stuck is when they get so focused on the goal that when change comes up they automatically feel that the issue or change is stopping the goal and they forget to focus on the opportunity to roll with what shows up. What is showing up has to be dealt with in order to get to the goal.
That's why it's called a rebound. Just because the shot was missed doesn't mean that we or someone on our team can't catch the rebound and reshoot and still score. We CAN rebound through these times as long as we stay focused on the goal. And if we don't win today, we can reset our strategy, look at the tapes of our lives, figure out where we didn't quite like the consequences of our choices and rechoose how to play for our goal.
So, commitments to actions:
Summer is here and that means shorts, tank tops, swimsuits, and skin cancer. Hey we are a mile above sea level here so you get more sun exposure than out friends on the coast. So while you enjoy the wonderful Colorado summer, make sure to periodically check for skin cancer. There is a great article that can give you a few tips in the Health and Wellness section.

“You are what you eat.” Apparently there is more truth to that than many of us thought. Here is some great information from Marie Claire about foods that actually make your skin look better. So before your next trip to the supermarket check out the list in Health and Beauty.

I think it’s pretty obvious I’m definitely not the knowledgeable one on Alice when it comes to celebrity gossip. Erica from BJ, Howie and Erica will forever hold THAT crown here!
I’m clearly the music girl… with that said:
It’s tough to ignore the coverage that Jon and Kate Plus 8 has been receiving lately with the rumors of infidelity and the question of “is Kate really as awful as it seems?” My exposure to their show was extremely limited until the big drama started. I would catch a promo here and there and personally thought that Kate seemed a bit overbearing.
